July and August were two months with fluctuating weather and temperatures. First hot days and lots of rain, especially in the afternoons/evenings, then low temperatures and snow at altitude, then a long period of scorching heat and beautiful sunny days, then more rain and falling temperatures. The choice of routes could only follow the conditions that gradually presented themselves, ranging from climbing routes in the shade, to escape the heat, to routes that dry out quickly or allow strategic retreats in the event of a storm. We certainly didn’t get bored!
