The Grossglockner 3798 m is the highest peak of Austria.
The classic route runs on the south side of the mountain, starting from the Lucknerhaus 1918 m, above the village of Kals.
During the season the Glossglockner is very busy and it’s possible to climb it in two days sleeping at the very comfortable Studlehutte hut 2802 m. When the hut is closed ther’s a little chalet where is possible to sleep paying a fee for the wooden fire (14 euros per person, 7 for alpine club members): it’s very well maintained, with electricity a toilette and 16 places.
From here the route climbs the glacier (Kodnitzkees) and the roky ridge (Adlersruhe) to the Erzhog Johann hut 3454 m, and then a 40° slope on snow/ice to the final rocky ridge (grade II, equipped with pitons).

Skiing is all about the experience, it’s about that journey of going further and separating yourself from the norm. Sometimes you get so far out of reality that it’s hard to find your way back to civilization. The Geoff McFetridge Wayback 96 limited edition highlights this journey in a way that only Geoff knows how. Protected from the strong wind the snow is still good. #staylow #stayprotected #puezodle #dolomitiunesco #earnyourturns #skitouring #skimountaineering #dolomiti #dolomites 97 0
It was so nice... but ok, this is part of the game. Today cloudy and windy. The snow is wind effected in many places and it’s better to take care of the windslabs. #fanessennesbraies #dolomitiunesco #earnyourturns #skitouring #skimountaineering #dolomiti #dolomites 253 9
It was supposed to be a rest day... #unconventionalitinerary #exploringnewlines #fanessennesbraies #dolomitiunesco #earnyourturns #powder #skitouring #dolomiti #dolomites 239 12
Playing in the sun. Same place, different team. #earnyourturns #powder #skitouring #dolomiti #dolomites 136 1
Normally we can use the cable car to ski on this terrain. At least now there are less tracks! Amazing day at Pordoi Pass with a strong team. #earnyourturns #powder #skitouring #dolomiti #dolomites 211 3
