12/06/2013: Eiger 3970 m – West face steep skiing descent
It was a while we wanted to ski the Saudan route on Eiger, but it’s always difficult to combine snow conditions, fitness, weather, work, family…
Wednesday 12th was Norbert birthday and everything seemed to be perfect… so Tuesday we drove to Grindelwald with our skis. The day after we took the first train to the Eigergletscher station 2320 m, where we started our long climb along the West face.
The weather was cloudy on the top, but the visibility improved after the first meters of skiing.
The snow was quite good in the upper part (spring snow), but we founded many old avalanches (fallen during the last snowy days) at the bottom.
A great day of skiing on an impressive face.
Thi is the best conclusion for a great ski season, started 8 months ago (15 November) and finished in June after almost 140 days on skis…
Now it’s summertime and I must stop to think about skiing… but only till mid September!
