The month of January has been a real winter month so far, with low temperatures and lots of snow, which, thanks to the cold weather, has always remained powdery, even on sunny slopes. After 10 January, however, the wind began to change the situation and in the following days the conditions changed radically. Fortunately, there was still some good snow to be found at lower altitudes, but the high altitude routes had to be approached with great care or postponed until better times.
Just as the snow was beginning to feel a little more secure, another big snowfall arrived between last Friday and Saturday. The snow, initially very wet, thanks to a cold and clear night, was super on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, however, the wind immediately showed up, shuffling the cards again and raising the risk of avalanches, especially at high altitudes. Let’s see what the next few days have in store for us, but it will certainly be better to enjoy the beautiful snow in the woods and wait until we can return to altitude soon.
Good snow.
