We are now in the second half of February, Carnival has already passed, but the ski lifts are still closed. After yet another postponement, they will certainly not open until 5 March, but it will probably be a season without piste skiing. This also means closed hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, etc., and an almost complete absence of tourists. Almost, because in the mountain areas where they are allowed to arrive (due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic), there are many ski mountaineers and hikers who come up from the cities at weekends.
Thanks to the abundance of snow, ski mountaineering is enjoying an extraordinary season, with the possibility of carrying out routes that have not been possible for years due to the lack of snow.
In recent weeks the conditions have been really changeable, with very low temperatures and spectacular snow, but then also strong wind and higher temperatures.
Here are some photos of the last few days.
